Lansana Spartar is an awarding winning movie director and screenwriter. He was born to Saidu Lansana Kamara and Fatmata Sillah at Krootown Road Freetown. He attended the St. John Primary School in Freetown and proceeded to the Prince of Wales Secondary School where he did his junior secondary school through senior secondary school. He read political science at Fourah Bay College and furthered to the University of Makeni where he got a Bachelor of Laws. He is currently an awaiting student for law school.

Lansana Spartar’s passion for filmmaking started in School while he was in the dream team, where his group acted on the day of their price giving and many people liked it. Someone advised him to venture into filmmaking. He had to find production and started as an actor. He then realized that he could do better in writing because he was so good at literature in his school days. While writing, he imagined himself telling people how to do it and that’s how he grew interested in directing and tried it out. It worked for him.

His first screenplay was ‘’Deep in the Game,” in 2012 while ‘’Camouflage” was the first film he ever directed. According to him, his passion is in edutaining people and making stars. To this day, Lansana Spartar has groomed many actors in the industry. Actors like Alimatu Limakhan, Phebe swill, Kadison Duwai, Aminata Adialine, etc, who passed under him have been able to rise and become very outstanding in the Sierra Leone Movie Industry.

Lansana Spartar has served as the creative director for the big sister show, both for seasons 1 and 2; and has won best movie director and best screenwriter awards from the National Films Awards, SLAAM, and the National Gospel Awards.

At Fourah Bay College he had a presentation about Ancient Greece wherein he focused on two cities, Athens and Spartan. He delved deeply into the topic, spoke about the Spartan and was so vivid that most of his classmates thought he had been Spartan and they immediately started calling him Sparta. That is how he got the nickname Lansana Spartar that so much popular in the industry today. His favourite quote is “saved and lives by Grace, words he is almost always posting on his social media handles. Lansana Spartar is the most popular movie director in Sierra Leone from the period of 2020 to 2022.

To reach his current peak in filmmaking Lansana Spartar had to first offer free directing service for especially his early films and technical support to a lot of other colleague filmmakers. He is naturally not a talk but very observant, keen on details when he is on set and he is very good at spotting and grooming talents.
