Papa Shaw is a well-established filmmaker, journalist and humanitarian worker in the Sierra Leone film industry. He has served as consultant for well-produced documentaries for both national and international entities.
Papa Edwin Shaw

Papa Shaw was born on 19th of March 1986 in Koidu City, Kono District to Hamidu and Sia Mariama Edina Daramy Shaw. He attended the God Is Our Light primary school – Daniel Town, Ganduhum, Gbaneh Chiefdom Kono, from class 1 to 3. Anzuru Islamic Primary School – 9 Koidu City from class 3 to 4. His parent 1992 when the war broke out in kono migrated to the country’s capital Freetown. He was enrolled at the Kissy Municipal Primary School Kissy Dock Yard where he sat to the National Primary School Examination. He furthered to The Government Municipal Secondary School. In 1996 after the May 27 coup, he transferred to Saint Edwards Secondary School from JSS 2 to 3 and sat to the Basic Education Certificate Examination. He continued his SSS1 to 3 at the West Africa Methodist Collegiate School in Freetown in 2004 where he sat to his WASCE. He attended several primary schools because of the eleven years civil war which contributed for his parents to move to several areas within that period. He proceeded to the International Education and Resource Network SL (iEARN SL) in Computer Software where he got a Certificate. He is presently Reading B(Hons.) in Recording Arts at The Limkokwing University of Creative Technology Sierra Leone.

Career

Papa Shaw is a well-established filmmaker, journalist and humanitarian worker in the Sierra Leone film industry. He has served as consultant for well-produced documentaries for both national and international entities. In 2017 he wrote and producer, he produced a sensitization documentary video to showcase why citizens should pay their tax. During the 2018 Sierra Leone General Elections, he worked at the DOP (Videographer) for the Women Situation Room entity. He served as the Host Journalist as Fixer for CGTN Journalists from abroad on the 17th October 2012 General Elections in Sierra Leone. From 2010 – 2012 he worked as Media Facilitator for Amnesty International SL. From 2008-2010 he was ABC TV as an Editor.  2004 – 2006 he was with the Centre for Media Technology.

He was trained as Director of Photography (Camera Operator) and Editor in 2003 by the Creative Director; Austin Haeberle. Listenup.org where he earned a certificate as director of photography and editor. In 2018, he happened to attend a Film Training Workshop organised by www.weltfilm.org in Ghana and got a certificate as a Professional Filmmaker.
