Joseph A. M. Koroma

Career

Joseph Koroma is a radio journalist, film producer, movie director and founding member of the Sierra Leone Film Guild. He used to be a storyteller amongst his friends during childhood, a sports personality and loved movies too. His hobbies are reading, writing and listening to music.

He joined filmmaking in 2005 as a screenwriter and an actor with the Button Line Production, in Freetown. In 2007 he started film directing with the Magic Touch Production, We All Na One, and in 2008, he worked with the One Family Production (ONEOF), Tengbeh Town, Freetown, and continued with the Freetown Movies before he established the Hydro Movies. With the Magic Touch Production, he was able to produce a movie titled “Son of Goodness”. Unfortunately, the editor lost both parts 1&2 of the edited files of the movie. That movie would have been released in 2008 as his first movie.

Joseph got frustrated and turned his attention to helping to build the structure of the film industry. His passion for filmmaking warranted him to have worked with both the Sierra Leone Film Council and the Sierra Leone Film Guild assiduously. He is very passionate, resilient and has great networking power.

Within 2008 and 2009, Joseph was fortunate to attend three major film workshops led by three international filmmakers at different intervals. He attended a workshop with Hollywood actor, Muine Guma Ntare (in a workshop conducted by the Education Department of the US Embassy), Hollywood casting director, Rock Locksley (at the then Alafia Point Beach Bar in Lumley) and Sorrel Golden, a one-time student of London Film School at the Ballanta Academy at Liverpool Street in Freetown.

He has been working as a reporter for Radio Numbara, Bumbuna since 2010 to date. He also served as an I.R.N reporter during the 2012 general elections. He is also a Red Cross volunteer, Community Animator for the Civil Society Movement Against Tuberculosis (CISMAT), Reporter for Situation Room – Ministry of Education, and Board Secretary for the Kalansogoia Financial Services Association. He is the Artistic Director for the Hydro Movies Bumbuna, President of the Tonkolili District Filmmakers’ Union (TDFU), and the Deputy Coordinator for the Sierra Leone Film Guild – Northern Province Chapter. Joseph is also an executive member of the Northern Movie Makers Alliance (NorMMAL).
